Plans for days!
A few quick updates:
I’m back in Phoenix (have been since wrapping up at Yestermorrow)
I’ve been refining my plans and got initial approval from NOAH for my build plans
I’m building the plans into SketchUp, which is it’s own adventure for another post
So, about those plans!
Here was my final presentation:
The top row is the program, laying out at a high level what I was designing and why. Then there are plans, sections, and elevations.
Sections: Wait, weren’t those second? Hang in there. A section is like taking a knife and slicing it through your structure. When labeled as a Section it’s a vertical interior cut, but…
Plans: …are a section, too! They’re a top-down view of the building’s floor plan, traditionally “sliced” 4 feet off the ground. On the main floor plan, you’ll also see labels showing where the Sections are taken and the arrow pointing in the direction you’re facing when looking at them.
Elevations: These are views of the structure from the outside, plain and simple.
Here is what I had when I finished at Yestermorrow, a little closer, with a few notes about them in the captions!

So that’s the plans in pictures. Fun story - as I was preparing things for NOAH, and putting the detailed dimensions on the main floor plan? I discovered that every single one of these drawings… was 1 foot too short!
When you’re hand drafting on trace paper, you just trace your previous drawing elements that you need in the new drawing and go from there. Fortunately, discovering I had 12 extra inches to work with was like winning the jackpot in tiny home planning. I didn’t redo these drawings because they were a LOT of work. If you’re curious, I added 9 inches in the kitchen, and 3 inches between the door and the stairs.
Last little update? The trailer is done! It’s still in Olathe, Colorado… but it’s complete! We have to work out the details of delivery, but… squeee!!!
